The most rewarding part of what I do - aside from writing
for good causes - is being able to work with clients from coast to coast. Thanks to modern technology, I’m never more
than a phone call, email, or IM away from addressing my clients’ needs or
delivering professional results.
Because no two clients are the same, I approach each new project
with a neutral, clean slate.(Although,
having worked with various types of organizations reduces the learning curve
significantly.)Each project is filtered
through what I’ve dubbed “The Process”:
Phone Consultation – This gives us
both an opportunity to get to know each other a bit while discussing your specific
needs and desired completion date, as well as my ability to meet them (or
not).
Proposal – Should we mutually
decide that the project is a good fit for both parties, I’ll provide you
with a simple summary of the project, based on the phone consultation, and
estimated fees – which are determined on a per-project basis.
Agreement – Upon approval of the
proposal, I’ll send over a Letter of Agreement outlining the scope of
work, fees, timeline, and all deadlines.Once you sign and return it, work on your project begins as
outlined.
Information Gathering – I’m an
information junkie.The more
information you can provide on your organization’s history, culture, future
plans, constituency, programs and services, and strategies, the
better.Of course, I won’t pour all
of the information I collect into one piece, but it will help me paint a
more vivid picture of what you’re all about and why others should care.
Depending on the project, this phase of "The Process" may also involve meetings, interviews and research. Sometimes, I may even ask you to complete a worksheet to help extract information that you hadn't considered important.
Work Period – This is where the rubber
hits the road… or in my scenario, where pen meets paper.
Draft Submission – I will provide a
draft of the work for your review.I ask all of my clients to thoroughly review the draft by reading
it in its entirety first, then again from the target reader’s perspective,
and once again with pen and paper in hand to note questions, comments, and
corrections.
Revisions – We’ll schedule a phone
meeting to discuss how the draft meets the goals of the project and to
address your questions, comments, and corrections. When a consensus is reached, I’ll revise
the draft accordingly.
Final Copy – An electronic copy of
the completed work will be provided as soon as revisions are
complete.Should you desire a hard
copy as well, I’ll have one delivered to you via USPS.
